Northern Rivers region to include Lismore, Woodburn and many more town and cities in region had worst hit flood impact. In total 5 convoys were sent by Sewa
from NSW – Sydney region for flood relief operation.
During the first visit, Sewa volunteers carried relief items which would help 30+ homes including: electric extension units, ladders, mops, brushes, cleaning vinegar and 120 litres of Industrial grade cleaners. Also 3 certified family counsellors travelled to support 4 families. A member family of the Sewa community in the region also loaned their car to a distressed single mother, until she can return to stability. the kindness in our community continued to astound us and we are
so grateful.

NSW Chapter Relief at Lismore & Woodburn

Second convoy was powered by youngsters from the Sewa Youth program helping them to understand the value of human relationships and post-disaster trauma. They helped tirelessly from 8:00 am at the Resource hub located at Koori Mail office in Lismore for the first 3 hours. Later in the day, volunteers were split into teams to support various families and seniors by either providing resources or assisting with home repairs. Sewa Youths were given first hand experience of dealing with impacted families, learning about how to approach a situation as a Mental Health First Aider
Convoy of Volunteers
Our third & fourth convoy joined hands to help the residents in Woodburn to carry out the cleaning monumental proportions. A total of 48 Sewa volunteers (including 9 teenagers and 18 youths) from South-west Sydney region NSW, assembled at Woodburn Relief Centre spend 36 plus hours helping the cleaning work of the residents of the town. When the Sewa volunteers talked with the local community about the situation at Woodburn, they came across some heart-rending tales. Nearly 94% of the homes suffered irreparable damages from the flood leaving many people with nothing but memories.
After their efforts at Woodburn Hub, the volunteers continued their journey to another hub called Resilient Lismore. Here, they distributed vessels, pans, and other dispensable items for renovations, along with a Bunnings voucher worth $2500. The volunteer team was split into sub-teams, each with specific tasks to complete.
